Skull candy is an american based company founded in 2003 that designs and produces headphones, earbuds, hands free devices, audio backpacks, mp3 players and other audio enabled lifestyle products. The company has found initial success throughout its 6 years running, through its designs of headphones people can wear their products without feeling self consious, the headphones they design now represent a fashion statement, a unique selling point in their market is what they needed to succeed, and they got one.
The companys website is designed to show off the products and inform of any news about products and such, the company website also holds a online shopping option where customers can buy their products online, this website can be and is intended for people of all ages who may need audio equipment, or something to walk around with as a fashion statement, the whole point of having a website is to advertise for a company in an attempt to try to increase sales, the online shopping option is just another tactic of increasing sales, people may use online shopping as a way of actually shopping online or as a means of just checking prices.
Skull candys website is carefully designed to aid the sales process, making the website feel more understandable with designed icons carefully aimed at attracting the teenager side of the consumers, on the websites home page you are faced with a dozen adverts of various new upcoming designs and products already on the market this is an advantage, searching for the latest on new products and designs can be stressfull and long, the way skullcandy implemented a slideshow advertising system into their homepage proves clever and informal, the second advantage i have noticed about the site is that it has a quick drop menu right at the top, this enables users to connect to various locations on the website in a time saving efficient way, another advantage is how everything is based on the home page, this saves the customers time and effort searching various parts of the site trying tofind what they want/need.
The only disadvantage about the site is that finding the online shopping area is a struggle, skull candy have not made the online shopping clear which confused me into searching the site thoroughly eventually reaching the area through the quicklink section on the top right of the home page.
To evaluate the website carefully i have performed two tasks and assessed them below.
Task 1: identifying contact details
Finding the contact details for this website was very easy, using the quick drop menu located at the top i clicked support and it showed me a link to the contacts page where i found informative specific contact details.
Task 2: finding the online shopping area
The products advertised on the main page are infact also links to the online shopping area, this was unclear to me at first but then i realised their purpose, once ive identified this it became much easier to carry on with my shopping.
